In today's scripture lesson Jesus speaks of hypocrisy. We would do well to be mindful of hypocrisy in our own lives. We should examine the motives behind what we do. Even the motives behind something as simple as attending Sunday worship are worthy of consideration. Granted, perhaps hypocrisy is not the most fitting description but we don't always bring the right motivations or intentions to worship. We come for many reasons: for fellowship, to enjoy the music, because that is what we have always done. These aren't necessarily bad reasons, but we ought to be coming first and foremost to give thanks and praise to God and to experience anew God's love and grace. Nothing should be aimless in the life of a Christian, especially our acts of devotion.
