In Matthew 20 we find a passage that is unique to Matthew's Gospel. We find it nowhere else. Even so, the parable we find there is familiar, a kingdom parable drawing on the image of laborers in a vineyard. Through this parable Jesus reveals that the boundaries once assumed before Jesus' ministry were being redrawn. God was calling new people and grafting them into the old. These would not be second class citizens but equal to all those who preceded them. God continues to invite people into God's kingdom, and even those whom we might deem least deserving are extended the same blessings. To these God makes the same promise of mercy and life. Without distinction we are one in Christ and co-heirs with Him.
